I’ve been working in newsrooms for over 12 years and have seen first-hand how quickly the for-profit model can create a barrier for the very people a newsroom aims to serve: readers like you. Here at Gothamist, we don’t charge for access to our journalism. We do, however, rely on your support and generosity to help fund our work.
We’re beholden to you, not advertisers. This is why we’re able to focus on the stories that matter most to you – stories that answer questions like:
Is this rent increase even legal?
Why is my grocery bill so expensive?
What fun, free thing can I do this weekend?
So why am I reaching out now? June is the end of our fiscal year - the time of the year when we close our financial books and make investments and plans for the next 12 months. Ending the year in a financially strong position sets up to do more essential reporting next year.
With only a few days left in June, we still need to add 492 donors to hit our goal for the year. Can we count on your support?
Limited Edition T-Shirt!
In addition to funding local news, donors will get a Gothamist t-shirt with a funny rat illustration – one of my favorite pieces of Gothamist merch to date.
